Turn Negatives Into Positive Experiences
Life is what we make it: we can make it a pleasure and more tolerable or we can make it miserable by the way we respond to it.
I believe I have learned a lot about responding to life’s challenges in a more appropriate manner than I used to ten years ago, and because I have, I live a much happier life.
I assume that you want the same things I do, that you want peace, joy, and happiness to permeate our lives in a positive way when we interact with those whom we associate and have dealings.
This blog is a way for me to share with you the lessons I’ve learned about “What Matters Most In Life”. I want to do this so you won’t become overwhelmed when misfortune hits you and give up on things ever getting better for you.
We cannot give up because nothing will change that’s good if we do. We can’t go backwards or stay in status quo, nothing good is there for us either! All we can do is accept the challenge and move forward, trying to change our perspective and the way we respond to life and it’s challenges.
If we cave in to the negatives of life and focus on what we don’t have, we miss the blessings and the joy that life also provides but we’ve become too jaded to notice. Doing this will NOT make our lives any more tolerable, just more miserable.
Look at your life and then turn around the negatives you see into a positive. It may take a lot of effort to find the blessings at first but before long, you will see them easier and more frequently.
Let me give you a few examples of what I mean.
Story #1: We had just received a huge income tax refund, which is NOT a usual for us. We actually had almost $5,000 in our tax refund check. We had the check for a short time before we had an emergency.
Our toilet had overflowed. Even though the water was clear, it was still considered black water and was contaminated. I didn’t know that at the time and so I was soaking up the water with towels and washing them. However, washing them added to the flooding…which I had not realized either.
Finally, a friend suggested we call a particular plumber to come out and see what was wrong. He discovered we had a pipe on our side of the road that had broken and the whole front yard had to be plowed up. It cost us a total of $4,000 after our cost of all the cleanup and plumbing work was done. We had to have new carpeting throughout the whole house except the living room because of the black water.
My husband was several states away for his father’s funeral and taking care of his dad’s affairs. I had an illness that prevented me from bending over to clean up or to pack up the house. The insurance covered the cleanup and carpeting but we had a $500 deductible. They also allowed ServPro to clean up and pack up rooms in the house. I had to make the decisions by myself because my husband couldn’t focus from all he was dealing with on his father’s affairs.
At first I was very angry because most of our refund check had gone to this emergency, and so little was left for us to do what we wanted to do with it. It took me about another day to ask myself, “What would we have done if we didn’t have that money? What if the problem had happened a few months earlier or a few months later, when the money had already been spent?” That’s when I realized the blessing in having the check when we did, and so I no longer saw the situation as a negativity.
Story #2: We wanted to see more of our grandchildren because most of them lived so far away from us that we rarely were able to see them. I had prayed and asked God if that desire would ever be realized. He assured me that it would.
Not long after the prayer, my husband was told that he and the company he worked for as a contract manager was being replaced. It was a very hard time for him, and that, in turn, made life hard on me too.
My husband had put in applications everywhere in Oregon (where we lived), he had even put in applications in Utah, Texas, and Indiana. Nothing was happening, so we decided to move to Indiana and stay with our son and his family until we secured a job. With so many states surrounding there, we thought that would give him a better chance of finding a job.
We left Oregon on July 4th 2000 and arrived in Indiana July 6th, on a Saturday. Sunday we went to church with our son and family. On Monday, my husband picked up the local sales paper and saw a management job right there in town near where we were. Tuesday, he called on the job and Wednesday they called him back and did a phone interview. On Thursday, he was offered the job.
My husband losing his job put us in Indiana near our son and his precious family. This was the beginning of my prayer being answered. Three years later, my son living in Texas called to tell my husband that his company was going to be calling him for a job interview in Texas. As it turned out, he did get the job and we moved to Texas.
Living in Texas put us only two and half hours from our son and his family and only thirteen hours from our son in Indiana. That still put us twenty-two hours from our son and his family in Utah and thirty-four hours from our daughter and her family in Oregon if we drove.
From then on, most of our spare money goes to plane tickets to Utah and Oregon to see family we are too far away from to drive. We are able to see them a lot more frequently than we had before moving to Texas. Do you see the blessing? The lost job and moving to Indiana actually brought to pass our desire to see family more often.
Story #3: Before we moved to Texas, my husband moved there ahead of me to set up everything for us to move there. I was working at the time, so I had to finish up my job. A month later, he came home to help me tie up loose ends and then planned on taking one of the cars back with him so he would had a vehicle to drive.
On Sunday, the day before he was to leave and go back to Texas, we went to a church conference about twenty-five miles away from home. On the way home after church, the car died right there in our town and about five miles from home. All we had to do was call our son to come rescue us. It couldn’t have been any more convenient.
The next day we had our vehicle towed to a repair shop. We were told the engine was dead and that it would take $2,500 to fix it. We only had $5,000 from the company to make our move with, which included the moving van. There was no money to fix the car and still have enough to move with so we had to get the other vehicle ready for the drive and tow the broken car behind the moving van.
Where was the blessing in this story? Do you see it? If we had not driven to church and put on those extra miles, the vehicle would have broken down somewhere late at night in the boonies and my husband would have been stranded. He would be stuck and no money to fix it. Instantly, he recognized the blessing and was thankful for it.
These are just three of the many stories I can tell you of situations where a calamity turned into a blessing. It was not always recognized as a blessing at first, but we did finally recognized it and felt grateful. Instead of feeling like life treated us badly and was always taking things from us, we saw the blessing and as a result, negatives were turned into a positive.
You can see blessings as well when you look for them and accept them with gratitude. As my stories reveal, you can turn a bad situation into a positive one when you accept life on it’s own terms and look for God’s hand in the situation.
The same is true when you see a negative situation that makes you angry, especially when someone does something that angers you, and then you do what I call, “Turn the penny over to see what’s on the other side.” In other words, you look at a situation and assume that it may not be what appears to be.
Turning the penny over means you consider what another scenario might be that would make it a different outcome that you had not considered before. Perhaps someone had a different motive than you immediately thought of or there were situations that you are not aware of that changes the situation dramatically from what it first appeared to be. In other words, turn over the penny and see what the other side presents.
Sometimes you just have to accept that “It is what it is!” and let go of it. If you can’t do anything about it or it won’t help the situation to create a commotion about it, then leave it alone. It won’t change things or make things any better, except to appease ego and emotions. It does nothing that creates peace or peace of mind in the situation, or do what’s best for the situation when the desired outcome is peace or peace of mind.
I hope my comments have given you something to think about, and that what I’ve said will help you see your trials differently.
I know God makes it clear in the scriptures that He is not pleased with people who don’t recognize His hand in their lives and then give the “enemy to peace” credit for the misfortune they experience instead of seeing the blessing that comes from Him. That’s not smart, and it’s no way to earn the Lord’s trust in our ability to accept His blessings in the future.
Out of Darkness Into Light
Written by a friend of C.C.R.
“Out of the Darkness, into the Light”. These short seven words explain unmistakably the effects of healing the wounds of PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) . While reading my daily inspirational “quotes”, I came across this one. We see and hear it often in religious sermons. For the many whose lives have been relentlessly challenged by life’s experiences and survived only by the grace of a higher power or some special intervention, we have an intimate understanding of going from darkness to light.
Sometimes we may reflect on how exactly we got to a “lighter” place: lighter by the brilliance of radiance in our days, lighter in our spirits that carry a heavy burden, unseen, unfelt, and often times misunderstood, and lighter in our physical bodies that endured the trauma from our past.
The answer to how we got to the light may not be as important as the blessing, we are here. In reality, we don’t remain in this space of lightness every moment. Yet, when we experience these twinkles of happiness, we feel a profound sense of peace. A peace that lets us know we are not alone in our battles. A peace that validates we are loved and cared for during our conflicts. A peace that leaves us with the hope that when we are thrown back into the abyss, we CAN and WILL be able to climb back up to the light. Just trusting this inner knowing is what gets us through the dark days and nights. It is what enables us to wake each morning with new expectations for the day. Without such trust it would be impossible to continue the journey, for the path is too unpredictable.
Healing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is built on the trust that through inner strength and outer resources we can not only survive and mend, we can thrive. Trauma can cause immense changes in our brains and bodies. It is not merely a matter of ’sucking it up’ that will move us toward better physical and emotional health; it is taking action to get that help needed for healing. For most physical illnesses this is obvious.
If one has a life-threatening disease, he/she would get outside, professional help. She would endure the devastating effects of chemo and radiation to survive. He would go through open heart surgery to repair the damaged organ expecting months of rehabilitation and physical therapy. However, with emotional trauma, some in society still seem to attach a stigma. The only weapon for dissolving the stigma is knowledge. And the only way knowledge blossoms is through openness, education, and courage.
You see it will take each of us to continue to share our insights with others. Truthfully, it is far easier to remain silent, hiding our wounds from the eyes of [the] world. Yet, knowledge does not grow in such darkness. It requires light, nourishment, and valor. So it is up to each of us to contribute to the understanding of PTSD and how one can move “out of the darkness, into the light.”
Blessings and continue mending..

If I Was On ObamaCare I’d Be Dead
First Posted on OurDaysReports.wordpress.com on 7/20/2010
I hope you all appreciate the message in this blog about ObamaCare and that you will push your Republican representatives who win in November to repeal this terrible law. Not that Republicans are much better than the Democrats, at least they don’t want to expand government to the point of destroying America. If vote independent or don’t vote at all, we are giving a vote to the Democrats. Please remember that. Lets get rid of the Democrat majority so the country has checks and balances again and then we can start cleaning house in the Republican Party.

Saliva Test Finds Cancer
First Posted on MyHummingbird Cafe on 7/01/2010
Have you heard that hard-to-find cancer can be detected in a saliva test?
I just read a report at the following link that discusses this test. The full report can be read at this link:http://www.newsmaxhealth.com/headline_health/saliva_test_detect_cancer/
2010/06/30/327112.html?s=al&promo_code=A2EA-1
Here is a summary of the above mentioned report.
Japan’s Keio University and University of California, Los Angeles, say they detect “high probabilities
of pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, and oral cancer” with a simple saliva test. This is exciting news,
if true. However, I saw a news report a month ago that said the saliva test might not be what it
claims. Pharmacies have been reported to have pulled saliva tests until they know more.
I did not know if there is still a concern about this technology so I called my own pharmacy. I was told they have never carried the saliva test because they usually carry only a few of those type of test. I then did a Google search on the subject and this is the
link for you to search this subject on you own.
Notwithstanding, you should know that “researchers analyzed saliva samples of 215 people, including cancer patients, and identified 54 substances whose presence can be used to detect the disease, Keio University said in a statement.”
In addition, “by further analyzing the substances,
the test detected 99 percent of pancreatic cancer cases, 95 percent of breast cancer, and 80 percent
of oral cancer cases among those taking part, ” the NewsMaxHealth.com reported. These numbers are impressive results.
Cancer researcher claim “The new technology can detect up to 500 different substances found in saliva at one time, said professor Tomoyoshi Soga at
Keio’s Institute for Advanced Biosciences.” He also said that “the technology would make it especially
easier to detect pancreatic and oral cancers.”
We know now that the survival rates of pancreatic cancer and oral cancer are especially low because, when they discover cancer, it is too far advanced or
the patient dies before clear early symptoms appear and spot the illness in time. The claim is that saliva
tests can detect cancer in its early stages, which often makes the illness treatable.
This report also claims “Saliva can be sampled more easily and casually than blood or stool inspection,” said institute head Masaru Tomita in the statement. And that “We would like to apply this technology not only to cancer cases but also other illnesses as well,” he said.

Easter Season
Easter is the season to remember our Savior died for us that we might live again and to take upon himself all of our sins and imperfections.
Easter is also the season that represents new birth and spring. . . with eggs, chicks, bunnies, and chocolate.

What Is The TEA Party Movement

They Just Don’t Get It!

Its about illegal government takeover.

Please Pray For Him
Court date Jan 26, 2010—-Obama
I ask that you pray for this Judge. I also ask that you storm Heaven, and ask God to allow the truth to come into the light. Get as many people as you can to pray for this to be resolved.
Please Pray For Him
Federal Judge Carter sets Trial Date for Obama’s Eligibility!
The expedited trial has been set for Jan. 26, 2010!
Many concerned veterans and citizens attended the hearing in Federal Court in Santa Ana in the lawsuit against Barack Obama to determine his eligibility to be President and Commander in Chief. About 150 people showed up, almost all in support of the lawsuit to demand that Obama release his birth certificate and other records that he has hidden from the American people..
Judge David Carter refused to hear Obama’s request for dismissal. He indicated there was almost no chance that this case would be dismissed. Obama is arguing this lawsuit was filed in the wrong court if you can believe that. Obama would prefer a “kangaroo court” instead of a Federal court! Assuming Judge Carter denies Obama’s motion for dismissal, he will likely then order expedited discovery which will force Obama to release his birth certificate in a timely manner (if he has one).
The judge, WHO IS A FORMER U.S. MARINE, repeated several times that this is A VERY SERIOUS CASE which must be resolved quickly so that the troops know that their Commander in Chief is eligible to hold that position and issue lawful orders to our military in this time of war. He basically said OBAMA MUST PROVE HIS ELIGIBILITY to the court! He said Americans deserve to know the truth about their President!
The two U.S. Attorneys representing Barack Obama tried everything they could to sway the judge that this case was frivolous, but Carter would have none of it and cut them off several times. Obama’s attorneys left the courtroom after about the 90 minut e hearing looking defeated and nervous.
Great day in America for the U.S. Constitution! The truth about Barack Obama’s eligibility will be known fairly soon – Judge Carter practically guaranteed it!
Video from the press conference after the hearing coming soon. Congratulations to plaintiffs attorney Dr. Orly Taitz! She did a great job and won some huge victories. She was fearless!
This needs to be forwarded to everyone you know….

My Hummingbird Cafe
You will find this new site useful in helping you deal with the issues we face in the world today, especially as women or as a single mom trying to raise a family and to take care of the home.
Although I have never been a single mother, I have had to care for our family while my husband was away when we lived in the mountains for ten years. My husband had to work three hours away from home a lot so I had to do things on my own when he had to stay with family members or do a weekend tour with the military.
I did have two teen sons at home to help me with some things, but still I had to act as head of the home while my husband was away. So yes, I do understand some of the problems single moms have to deal with, and how hard it can be to raise teenagers when there is no man in the home.
Because of my own experiences, as mentioned above, I want to make things a little easier for you, if I can. One way to help is by giving you access to the type of information women need today. You can help too by telling us what you need to know, by providing your advice, by sharing your knowledge, and bysharing how My Hummingbird Cafe helps you.
Even though My Hummingbird Cafe is for women only, men are invited to give us advice for handling teens or for doing some of the fix-it projects around the home.
I hope you will check into this new site and give me your thought on it or tell me how I can improve the site. Thanks, and may things go better for you in the future.

How To Be At Peace
Have you noticed that when we say “peace” and “happiness” in the same breath, the word “peace” usually comes first? I noticed, and I wondered why that is so. How does the word “peace” being used first affect the meaning of a sentence, or does it?
I suppose, it could be the subconscious mind reminding us that without peace existing around us and without it permeating our souls as it should on a consistent basis, nothing else we do first will provide the happiness that we desire. In other words, to experience joy and happiness in the heart we need peace to be in the soul. This is the payoff for making correct choices and wise decisions.
Peace is not achieved by accident; we need to create an environment for peace to exist. How to do that is the focus of my book “The Treasure Box Series, Volume I: Peace, Joy, and Happiness“.
- First, we must become a peaceful person on the inside by being in harmony with the human system (we will discuss that more later).
- Next, we establish healthy habits that help us control our impulses and reactions
- We must do whatever it takes to protect the peace around us by making good choices and decisions that reward us with the peace and happiness we seek.
- Then we live the type of life that fills the empty places in our souls with gems that give us more of what we really want in life. These gems reflect the many facets of peace, joy, and happiness that fill our treasure boxes with a rich sense of fulfillment and a warm feeling of contentment in our souls.
It is possibile that, from this point forward, you can create a life with purpose you and your family will feel good about for years, even benefit from for decades to come. What is more satisfying than that? What will make your life more creditable, meaningful, and more peaceful than it is right now? This question is one you need to answer. Perhaps my blogs can help you do that (see http://mytreasureboxseries.wordpress.com, http://familybasics.wordpress.com, and http://www.rdays.tv).
Learning to respond appropriately to situations is vital for keeping the peace and being happy. I hope you will check out my book as mentioned above because it has suggestions to help you accomplish this goal.
Developing a better understanding of what to do in life’s storm helps you prevent even the slightest wind from becoming a tempest when adversity comes your way. Consequently, you will feel more confident about your ability to weather storms that threaten your peace.
As we see demonstrated in the “Three Little Pigs” story, when the big, bad wolf blows on our house of peace, it will not blow over and will remain standing firm because we know how to appropriately respond to the storm and the wind.
Being at peace requires our full commitment, discipline, and resolve to change how we deal with situations that cause chaos and stress. This means we need to learn new skills to avoid inappropriate responses. We will discuss how to do that in later articles.
I welcome your thoughts on this article. I also welcome anything you would like to add in disagreement or as advice.

An Easter Message
I hope this message is as special to you as it is to me. With the atmosphere around us these days, it helps to know someone has paid the ultimate price for your redemption. Knowing we can rely on Him and His love helps us through the hard times we face in life. But try to remember that we live on a volatile planet. We will have storms rage about us, mudslides, fires, and all sorts of chaos around us.
The Lord gave us a lovely planet to live on, but we have to accept the good with the bad. Tornadoes and fires are a fact of life and it’s not God’s fault if you suffer from them. He is there to comfort you, so take advantage of that gift, but don’t blame Him for your misfortune of living on this earth. See the gift of life (however long that is) as a blessing and enjoy the time you have with your loved-ones and give thanks for each day that you wake up. That is the way I see this life on earth and I hope you feel the same.
I welcome your comments on this subject.

Children and Cell Phone Use
I just watched three videos on children’s use of cell phones. Then I noticed that there were 52 related videos on this subject…too many for me to put on my video pod. I put a link below for you to click on and watch a good report on the subject and then you should see the other related videos. I hope you will take the time to watch several of them because this is becoming another health issue that affects families today. After watching the videos, I would appreciate some feedback on your experieces and how you deal with this problem yourself. In this way, you may be able to help others who are having the same problem.
