Fight FOCA
Fight FOCA
POSTED Dec 9, 2008 under the old BLF Consulting that was accidently deleted
I want to let you know about a terrible piece of legislation called “The Freedom of Choice Act” (FOCA). FOCA would establish the right to abortion as a fundamental right (like the right to free speech). It would prevent states from enacting similar protective measures in the future.
FOCA Would Wipe Away Every Restriction on Abortion Nationwide. This would eradicate state and federal laws that the majority of Americans support, such as:
* Bans on Partial Birth Abortion
* Requirements that women be given information about the risks of getting an abortion
* Only licensed physicians can perform abortions
* Parents must be informed and give consent to their minor daughter’s abortion
FOCA would erase these laws. Obama Promises to sign this bill as soon as he takes office.

Enjoy Life

Try to Relax and Enjoy The Life That You’ve Been Given
Perhaps what we should slow down so that we have time to enjoy the lives we have; however it comes to us. Being too busy to enjoy life is becoming a bigger problem in our bustling society today.
The faster we go after the things in life that we think we need and want, the more details we are likely to miss and the more mistakes we are likely to make. So we need to just slow down before we do something that cannot be undone.
When doing things in haste, we often miss the steps we need to make in order for us to function best. It’s much like creating strong mortar that keeps the building blocks of our lives in place. We cannot afford to take the risk of creating weak mortar in our life’s building blocks and then see everything that has value come crashing down around us.
We need to take time to smell the roses, to notice the shapes of clouds in the sky, to notice the colors of flowers along the freeway, and to pay attention to the activities of our children. We need to notice how quickly they grow up. How long has it been that you last noticed their personalities? Have you noticed that they are starting to develop an interesting personality or it has been developed for quite some time but you haven’t even noticed?
Take the time to notice all the good things our spouses do for us. Try to remember what we love about them, and how glad we are that we married them. Then the spouses should tell each other how they feel.
We need to stop thinking about all the things we have to do today or tomorrow and just enjoy doing things in the moment. We really need to live our lives more in the moment and just enjoy the blessing of living today!
Of course there are things we need to take seriously, and that we need to keep on top of , but we also need time to relax and play. All work and no play will put a man or woman in the sickbed, in the hospital bed, or worse, in the grave. In other words, we probably need to tap into our playful side more often than we do, like I am doing right now by writing this blog.
If we have trouble letting down our hair and relaxing as we should, we neeed find someone with whom we can share an activity. Who do we know that can help us be more playful and exercise that light-hearted side of our nature? We need to go out and have fun with a friend, rather than doing things alone. Going solo isn’t much fun and eventually grows tiresome and lonely. We cannot let this happen to us. If it already has, then perhaps we need to change something and do things differently.
It is my desire that you find a way to spark up your life through activities that you enjoy. Try to play more when you need to, and to relax when you notice you are getting too intense.

BECOME PART OF THE SOLUTION
When we learn the lessons we are supposed to learn (that is to respond appropriately) and become more peaceful in the soul, when we teach what we learn to those in our own circles of influence (to experience peace themselves), we will make a marked difference in the world around us. Moreover, when we trust our spirits (the warm feelings within) to lead us on the correct pathways of life, when we rely on the power source in the universe to direct us, we become part of the solution in building a happier family unit and a healthier society. Now re-read the bolded words.
Learning to think first and respond appropriately to problems will teach this skill to others. They learn it by our examples as they interact with us and see how we handle difficult situations. Remember that kindness begets kindness, love begets love, peace begets peace, chaos begets chaos, anger begets anger, hate begets hate, and paranoia begets paranoia. The same thing is true when we are good examples, people reflect back what they see in us. This is
why we need to understand the reasoning behind responding appropriately to situations, and why this is essential for our future peace.
Not everyone understands the concept of teaching by example, however, and so some might be tempted to teach strictly by their intellect and knowledge. They believe they are wise because they have experienced difficulties in the past and think this qualifies them to teach others what they know. Yet we know that actions speak louder than words. Often, we see these people puffed up in their pride and ego, so what they teach comes from self/ego, instead of tapping into the resources of the spirit. Hence, teaching by example is best and when it’s done through the spirit. In this way, we become an army that can reach far more people than would be otherwise by the few who teach one person at a time. In other words, if we can show just one, then we can teach the whole village.
If you decide to teach by words and intellect, then it must be done with insight, humility, honesty, integrit conviction, and honed understanding. This is best done by tapping into the resources of the spirit to avoid teaching out of self-righteousness, arrogance, or judgment. Of course, this is also very difficult to do because pride and arrogance usually get in the way. This is why few are called by God to teach these things, and why He reserves that role for those who are humble and teachable themselves. That is also why it is best to teach by the guidelines I have just described? We can all teach by example, and the best part is that it is duplicatable by those we meet.
When handicapped with self/ego, some people who feel qualified to teach believe it is necessary to “fix” people (or change them) in order to educate them. Sadly, we often take this bait and try to fix ourselves according to the instructions of those who are supposed to know—but sometimes experts are far from being true examples of what they teach. Then we end up losing faith in the supposed experts, and forget their teachings when they are caught in hypocrisy, arrogance, and judgment. This is why we must fix ourselves before we ever think of fixing anyone else.
We fix ourselves when we are teachable and allow our spirits to be taught the ways of God and the universe. If we teach, let it be by the model of compassion and an attitude of service. These are the qualities that others can easily duplicate by example!
Do you see the power we all have to change not only our own lives and that of our children’s, but to also change our world in the future? This is an awesome responsibility. Being part of the solution and not part of the problem is truly an opportunity to make a brighter future for all of humanity. This great responsibility is also a blessing for us today, as well as for our posterity tomorrow.
This scenario does not have to be only in fantasy. If we do our part by staying in integrity and showing others how to do likewise through our example, we can cause effectual changes to occur in society. With love and conviction, and by adhering to correct principles, we automatically become beacons for others to follow. In this way, we show them how to become more of what they want to be as we become more of what we want to be. We show them how to have more of what makes them happy when we are happy. We show them how to have more out of their lives than they expected! There’s not much that’s more satisfying than this! IS THERE?

Get A Good Education

A good education opens the door to opportunities and provides a well-rounded approach to life. The knowledge that we gain benefits us in more ways than can be determined by a piece of paper, and it also has the ability to free us from the bondage of our limitations. The more we learn, the more we expand our horizons and the more we benefit.
Getting an education does not only mean getting a formal education. It could mean completing courses
through a home study program by mail or learning new skills through a trade school. It could mean increasing
our current skills by taking online courses at home through the Internet, or by taking general courses at a
university. You might also consider a specialized program through one of several private colleges, business colleges, junior colleges, and community colleges. Communities often offer programs as well.
A wise person recognizes that upgrading their skills needs to be an ongoing process throughout life. A wise
person also recognizes that to be more appealing in an ever-changing job market, a good education, upgrading an education, or upgrading skills is necessary and creates more opportunities. Also, improving an education makes a person eligible for more jobs or for a position opening up at a present place of employment.
